Toolbox Talk Record Template
v1.2
Purpose. This template records the fortnightly toolbox talk on each property: the topic, what was discussed, who attended and the actions agreed.
1.Purpose of the toolbox talk
Toolbox talks are the main way safety and welfare information reaches the people who handle the horses. Each property holds a talk every second Tuesday after morning stables. The record shows the regulator, the insurer and the business that staff were consulted and informed.
2.Preparing the talk
The supervisor running the talk must choose a topic from the People, Safety and Compliance calendar or from a recent incident. The talk must be short, practical and specific to the property. Bring the relevant procedure and any gear that will be demonstrated.
3.Running the talk
Start with any incidents since the last talk and the status of open actions. Present the topic, ask for questions and hazards from the floor, and agree on actions with a name and a date against each. Keep the talk to 15 minutes.
4.Recording
Complete this template during or immediately after the talk. Every attendee must sign or be listed. Enter the actions in the Incident and Hazard Register as hazards or corrective actions where they need tracking.
5.Filing
File the completed record in the property safety folder and send a copy to the People, Safety and Compliance Manager by the end of the day.
