Our departments
Six departments make up the business. Each page shows the purpose, the people, the measures that matter and the systems the team works in.
Thoroughbred Training Stables
Prepares thoroughbreds for racing at the Cranbourne stables: daily stable duties, trackwork, feeding programs, gear management and race day attendance. The team keeps every horse sound, fit and correctly recorded from the day it arrives to the day it spells or is retired.
Harness Racing Division
Educates, trains and races standardbreds from the Melton stables. The team handles jog work, fast work, gear fitting, sulky and harness maintenance, trials and race driving, and complies with the harness racing rules on gear, medication and race day procedures.
Stud and Breeding
Runs the Nagambie stud: stallion management, mare bookings, oestrus detection, natural mating, foaling, raising young horses and preparing yearlings for sale. Stud records are the legal history of every horse bred on the property and are kept to stud book standard.
Horse Health and Welfare
Coordinates veterinary, farrier, dental and physiotherapy care across all three properties, keeps the treatment and medication log, manages the medication store and biosecurity, and runs the welfare check program so that no horse races or travels unless it is sound and fit.
Racing Operations and Administration
Handles nominations, acceptances, jockey and driver bookings, race day logistics, owner communications, syndicate administration and accounts. The team is the link between the trainers, the owners and the racing authority, and keeps every entry, scratching and result recorded.
People, Safety and Compliance
Looks after recruitment, inductions, licensing, rosters, the incident register, drug and alcohol testing, emergency planning and the controlled document library. The team makes sure every person on the properties is licensed where required, inducted, fit for work and working to the written procedures.
