The situation

What has happened

It is 3:30 am on 11 September 2026 and you have twelve boxes in Barn B. The Trackwork and Stable Roster shows Coastal Ember on fast work with Sam Vandenberg, Kestrel Comet swimming, and Tarrawarra Gold still in isolation yard 2. Kirra Donnelly, the Stable Foreman, expects every horse fed, checked, mucked out and gear laid out before the first horse goes to the track at 4:30 am. Kestrel Comet is on a daily omeprazole course, and one horse in your barn left half its feed last night. Stewards may inspect the stables this month, so records have to be right the first time.

Your brief. Complete the morning routine for Barn B to the written procedures: feed to the program, carry out and record welfare checks in the Horse Register, prepare horses and gear in the order of the roster, report any concern to the Stable Foreman and record the omeprazole dose in the Treatment and Medication Log.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for feeds made to the written program without guesswork, welfare checks recorded on the day with specific observations, the medication entered before it is given, and a prompt, factual report of the horse off its feed. The student must show they keep isolation hygiene separate and know when to stop and ask the Stable Foreman.
