The situation

What has happened

Silverstride Duchess is due to foal around 18 September 2026 and has been moved to foaling paddock 1 with an alarm fitted. You start the night roster on Monday 14 September. The gate latch on paddock 2 is faulty and has been reported in the Incident and Hazard Register, so paddock 2 cannot be used. The foaling kit must be checked against the list, the on-call veterinarian arrangements confirmed, and two-hourly checks recorded. The Stud Manager expects the stud foaling book and the Horse Register completed within the shift of any foaling, and every problem reported immediately.

Your brief. Prepare the paddock, kit and records for the foaling of Silverstride Duchess to the Foaling Procedure, carry out and record the overnight checks, and describe the actions you take during and after the foaling, including when to call for help.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for the 15 minute rule and the red bag response stated correctly, observations that are specific rather than generic, and records completed within the shift. The student must show they know the limits of their role, when to call the veterinarian, and how to keep the foaling paddock and visiting staff within the biosecurity rules.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
